Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

I saw this book tag on The Wild Soul blog and I’ve been seeing it all over the place on twitter. Now sorry if I mention books you love, but remember the whole point is that these are unpopular opinions. So without further delay, the unpopular opinions book tag:

A popular book or series that you just didn’t like? | Legend Series by Marie Lu

I really tried with the Legend Series. I read all 3 books but in the end they just sort of fell flat for me and I’m not sure why. For me the romance between Day and June was just never great and the whole series was lacking for me.

A popular book series that everyone seems to hate that you love | The Last Star by Rick Yancey

I don’t know why but everyone seemed to hate the last book in the 5th Wave series. Now while I do agree that the first book was the best I thought they way he wrapped up the series was good. I mean ya it always sucks when important characters die but the way they died in this book was admirable and I think it fit with the apocalypse reality the other books kept with.

A love triangle where the main character you did not want them to | Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs

Mark or Kona. Obviously Kona. I never root for the original friend/boyfriend. I always root for the new, usually dark and mysterious guy. If they were childhood friends/dating already (Gale, Jacob) then I almost never pick them. So imagine my disappointment when Mark wins the girl in the end of this series instead of Kona.

A popular book genre you hardly reach for |  Classics

I try and force myself to reach for a classic every year but more often than not I hate them when I read them. And it’s upsetting to me because everyone seems to love classic books and they’re held in such high regard. People seems so much more impressed if they ask what I’m reading and I say “Wuthering Heights” than if I say “Empire of Storms” which is annoying but I hated Wuthering Heights.

A popular or beloved character you don’t like | Harper Price

Rebel Belle did not do it for me and mostly it was because I could not stand the main character Harper. She was so annoying and the entire premise of the book just fell flat for me, especially her character.

A popular author you can’t stand | Maggie Stiefvater

I want to like Maggie Stiefvater’s writing style. I wanted to love her because he name is Maggie for one thing. I wanted to like the Raven Boys series. The first book drew me in and I was rooting for it because I liked the characters. But as the books went on they got harder and harder to finish and the way the story wrapped up left a lot to be desired and I think of lot of it was that I just didn’t enjoy her writing style.

A popular book trope you’re tired of seeing (ex. lost princess, prophecy) | Memory Loss

I’ve said it before but my pet peeve with books is when they go for any sort of memory loss plot line. It kills me. I cannot stand when I know more about the characters past than they do. It’s worst when it happens at the end of a series and all that’s happened over several books is lost to them when I still know what happened. I hate it.

A popular series you have no interest in reading | Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I feel like I missed the boat on this series. If I had picked it up in middle school when I was still on my twilight high I’m sure I would have loved it, but now so much later I’m pretty sure I’ll never pick it up.

The saying goes “the book is always better than the movie” but what movies or tv show is better than the book? | The 100

Oh this one is so easy. The 100. The tv show is amazing. It’s packed with action, adventure, and hot angsty men. Naturally when I was spiraling out of control with my 100 obsession I read all 3 books and they are nothing like the show. Half the characters are different and the plot is the same down the very bare minimum, almost nothing that happens once they get on the ground is the same. The ONLY thing the books have going for them that the show doesn’t (yet) is Bellarke.

So there you go, the Unpopular Opinion book tag. I tag Emiesnook to do this tag and anyone else who wants to do it.

Thanks for reading
