When Fan Art is Life Changing Part 2

Sometimes I just need to fangirl, badly. You can see it in the predecessor of this post (When fan art is life changing part 1) or in my many posts sobbing about Fanfic so amazing I literally can’t not share it.

So this is another one of those moments.

Needless to say I am UNWELL.

avatar_1019.png

Recently a there have been a few pieces of fan art that just make me a puddle (spoilers for ACOTAR ahead *duh duh duh*). Now please excuse the rest of this post where I display the true level of Fangirl Trash that I am.

flat,800x800,075,f-2.jpg

And yes…I have this sticker on my laptop. No shame.

The first are all by Coralie Jubénot who you can find on tumblr at http://cocotingo.tumblr.com/tagged/my+art or on twitter as @Merwild. She has done some absolutely STUNNING ACOTAR and TOG art. There are so many amazing ones I could share, so it was difficult to narrow it down to a few favorites. Her depiction of Feyre and her sisters are my favorites and her drawing of Rhys are beautiful.

This first one is her drawing of all 3 Archeron sisters and I think it’s stunning and that she captured the 3 of them so well.

2 other favorites are these photos of Feyre in night court attire and of course Starfall. Just looking at them so happy and holding each other makes me want to cry and collapse to the floor. BTW I did not include the PG-13/R/M drawings of some certain scenes from ACOMAF. One involving a certain high lords hands in a chilly inn and the other involving lots and lots of paint (following delicious meal of soup, if you know what I mean…)

Now the exciting thing is that she has just stared reading the Throne of Glass series (she’s only on Crown of Midnight so I’m sure we’ll have some special characters from Heir of fire soon). But for now her drawing of Celaena is my favorite and her depiction of Chaol is amazing. She’s also done head shot of Nehemia and Dorian, both amazing. (Left to Right: Celaena, Dorian, Chaol, Nehemia)

BUT it does not end there. She also has a gorgeous piece of Chaol fetching Celaena from Endovier and it is stunning. He looks like a captain of the guard and she looks like she was just pulled from a mine.

GAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. I love it.

Now I know I may be spiraling, but unfortunately I’m not done there. Oh no. I’m fully aboard the crazy train.

As you may know, I recently finished Crooked Kingdom and so naturally I had to pin all the new Six of Crows art to my pinterest board and came across this beauty from Fictograph.

bb5c00d080a061f24823d681fb2a4c79.jpg

I’m not exactly sure why, but this is my favorite Kaz Inej art I’ve come across. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re out feeding the crows, but I think it’s beautiful.

Again. I am unwell.

Describe Yourself in 3 Fictional Characters

So this describe yourself in 3 characters has been making its way around Twitter and Instagram and I’ve definitely thought about who I would be but it actually took me a little while to come up with 3 solid answers. But I finally feel content with my answers so here are the 3 characters that I feel describe me:

1. Nesta Archeron | A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J Maas

So if you’ve read almost any other post by me, you’ve probably heard me rant about Nesta and how much I love her. Everything about her fiery spirit and sometimes aggressive, sarcastic, possibly hurtful comments reminds me of me. But her fierce protectiveness of those she cares about is definitely something I can relate to, plus we have the same taste in men, since I love me the sarcastic asshole who is actually super loyal and will protect the people he cares about *cough cough Cassian*. Me and my 2 best friends plan on dressing as Nesta, Elain and Feyre at some point and we call our little book club the Archeron Sisters Book Club so you can see this one runs deep for me.

“You need me far more than I need you. So I’d suggest you merely agree, tuck in those bat wings, and ask nicely” -Nesta Archeron, A Court of Mist and Fury exclusive chapter, Wings and Embers

tumblr_odtooygrjg1uv3gwvo2_1280

2. John Murphy | The 100

So if you saw above my mention of loving the “sarcastic asshole who is actually super loyal and will protect the people he cares about” I was also talking about John Murphy. In season 1 he becomes the villain, although he never actually did anything wrong but he is quickly redeemed in season 2 and 3. I love him so much. His comments are fire and even though he can be an ass sometimes he always means well and is actually the hero more times than not and I just want my precious murphy to find happiness. But like Murphy I may say things that could be seen as aggressive and I can be a downright asshole at times but I mean well if I care about you.

“Tough me again and I’ll end you. In a non criminal way” – John Murphy, The 100

3. Cruella De Vil | One Hundred and One Dalmatians

So, this is the one that took me a while to come up with, but in the end was so obvious. Now I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t that the crazy lady who wants to make coats out of adorable puppies? Well yes, but that is not why I like her I promise (I do want to be a veterinarian so I love dogs). The reason I love Curella De Vil is because she taught me how to be a fabulous sass master and I swear as a child I learned all my comments from Disney Villains. I would call people idiots, imbeciles, fools way too often as a kid and I can say I have been Cruella twice for Halloween. Once as a kid, where I made my dog a dalmatian coat and made her walk around with me, and again just last year where I even committed to dying my hair half black and white.

” You’ll be sorry! You fools! You – you idiots!” -Cruella De Vil, One Hundred and One Dalmatians

IMG_7299.JPG

I feel these are the 3 characters who best describe me but I had some close runner ups who deserve a shout out including:

Cath Avery – Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Eliza Thornberry – The Wild Thornberrys

Sokka – Avatar the Last Airbender

What characters do you most identify with? Any of these ones?

Thanks for Reading

Nessian Fic Part 4

Ok so if you follow my posts, I’ve been dying a slow death reading StarsWhoListen’s Nesta/Cassian Fics. The original idea for them were my own and there is only one person I would trust to write them for me (since I am talentless in the creative writing department) and now we have finished the beautiful story of Nessian’s Family.

The reason these fics are so amazing is a) they all have Mumford and Sons lyric titles (my fav band), b) Nessian is written so well and true to character and this last reason only applies to me but c) these fics are full of inside jokes for me of things I’ve said or would say because the reason my friend StarsWhoListen writes Nesta so well is because she writes her as me.

Now that being said there is one little inside joke I would like to address: CUCUMBER SANDWICHES ARE A THING. If you read part 3 of the Nessian Babies Series then you’ll notice this reference and I would just like to say it’s a real sandwich that my family eats and I enjoy for lunch frequently.

expsi12325_W1973175D05_03_1b.jpg

See? Normal.

*Ends rant here*

But please, if you love Nessian and need some seriously adorable Nessian moments in your life then go read Roll Your Stone Away, I Saw A Flicker Then Just Smoke and Awake My Soul.

Archeron Sisters Book Club

So this is the start of a monthly book club, where myself, Emily @ EmiesNook and Jess @ StarsWhoListen will be selecting a book each month and reading it together. Then we will each review the book separately and do a single, collaborative discussion page about the book.

We are 3 best friends and a branch of the same sorority family. Jess is my Big and I am Emily’s Big. Together we love to watch The 100, Outlander, and Game of Thrones. Plus we love to go to the bookstore together and stare longingly at Sarah J Maas’s books. By the end of last year we did absolutely everything together, and even though we are not all in the same place anymore we still love to read the same books together and discuss them.

We call ourselves the Archeron Sisters as a reference from Sarah J Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Nesta, Elain, and Feyre are the 3 sisters with very distinct personalities.

fire-clipart-cliparti1-fire-clip-art-jpgI am Nesta, because of my sarcastic, sometimes abrasive nature, and the fact that Cassian is totally my type.

17169-illustration-of-red-tulips-pvEmily @ EmiesNook is Elain, as she is the most gentle of the 3 of us.

8cxkzblei

And  Jess @ StarsWhoListen is Feyre (although she is really more of a combination of Feyre and Mor) as she is all about justice and is currently studying to be a domestic violence lawyer.

September Book:

15790873-2.jpg

So if you’d like to read along with us and join our discussion, this month we’ll be reading This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E Smith. It’s a contemporary romance and is praised as being gorgeous and heartwarming.

Graham Larkin and Ellie O’Neill meet – albeit virtually – when Graham accidentally sends Ellie an e-mail about his pet pig Wilbur. The two seventeen year olds strike up an email relationship even though they don’t even know each other’s first name.

Jess @ Starswholisten

ACOMAF Merch

So my good friend Emily @ EmiesNook is a big SJM fan and so for her birthday which was over the summer I ordered her a print from The Quoted Page on Etsy. I am so happy with this purchase. It was not super expensive but I think it’s a stunning print.

I opened it today and it looks perfect. It looks just like it did online, a really high quality print and not blurry at all. PLUS it came with 2 beautiful watercolor book marks with ACOMAF quotes on them! What a nice bonus!! (Planning on keeping 1 for myself).

Anyways if you’re interested I highly recommend checking out The Quoted Page etsy shop as she has all kinds of merch for book lovers!

Nessian Fic Part 3

So I’m just going to keep doing this because I consider these StarsWhoListen fan fictions about Nessian to be partly mine as they are always dedicated to me and I help come up with some of the ideas for them because I need all the Nessian fics.

I may have mentioned to my favorite fan fic writer that I love nothing more than a good wounded lovers fic where someone gets hurt and their lover gets all flustered, emotional, and protective about them.

Well ask and you shall receive. So now on top of the most amazing Nessian Pregnant Fic (I Saw a Flicker then Just Smoke) which morphed into Nessian with a puppy we have Cassian fussing over an injured Nesta which is everything you’d want it to be and more. So go read Sinking Ships, which is named after an amazing Nessian song by Seafret, my new favorite band.

Nessian Forever.

PS: Please know the line “But my insults are so clever” was inspired by me

Goodreads Book Tag

So I love Goodreads. I discovered it in 2012 and have been using it religiously ever since. I first saw this tag on the hangingwithamanda blog so without further delay here is the Goodreads book tag.

What was the last book you marked as read | Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas

Empire of Storms by SJM came out on Tuesday and it has been an exciting 3 days reading it but alas as always with her books its over too soon and no spoilers but the end has wrecked me and I don’t know how I’ll make it to next fall.

What are you currently reading | The Bricks that Build the Houses by Kate Tempest

This was a book I found at a used bookshop for $3. I had never heard of it but it had a nice bright pink cover so I bought it. So far it’s ok. It’s a contemporary following the lives of a few people in London who’s lives are all interconnecting and weaving together throughout the book. It reminds me a little of Let the Great World Spins by Colum McCann. It’s been a slow read but it’s a good read 1 chapter before bed book.

What was the last book you marked as TBR | Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

I am so excited for this book. I had never heard of it until today when it came up on my Amazon and I just happened to click on it. The premise sounds fascinating: 3 sister princesses, all heirs to the throne, and all with a different form of magic. When they come of age, they will fight to the death and whoever is left standing becomes queen. I want my 2 best friends to read this with me since anything with 3 sisters is fun for us (we are Feyre, Nesta and Elaine from ACOMAF).

What book do you plan to read next | Between the Lines by Jodi Picot and Samantha Van Leer

I bought this today and I’m super excited to pick it up. I feel like the premise is exciting for any book worm. The thought of the handsome prince on the pages falling in love with you while you read it. I’ve heard good things about this book and it’s sequel and I think it’s going to be just the type of cute romance I need after finishing Empire of Storms.

Do you use the star rating system | Yes

Yes but I always wish that Goodreads had half stars. When I first started reading it I gave almost everything 5 stars, very few things 4 stars and only the absolute worst 3 stars. Since then I’ve had to go back and adjust my rating since I realized that not all my 5 star books were created equal and a lot of my 3 star books were 2 or even 1 stars.

Are you doing the 2016 reading challenge | Yes

Yes I love that Goodreads tracks how many books I read each year. Generally I fall somewhere between 35-50 books a year so my goal is usually about 45. So far this year I’m a little behind since during winter break, when I would usually get a lot of my reading done I was studying abroad and then during the summer I was in a horrible book slump. But I’m currently at 23 with a few months left so I think I could still get there.

Do you have a wish list | No

No I’ve never used the wishlist since no one really buys me books. I pick out my own books and pretty much use my TBR list as a wish list.

What book do you plan to buy next | Good Question

More often than not I go to the used book store 2nd and Charles and get books there. The books are in great condition and they have such a great selection. But since they never have anything I never know what I’m going to find. I did pre-order Crooked Kingdom today though.

Do you have any favorite quotes. Share a few | Of Course

“You’re never going to find a guy who’s exactly like you—first of all, because that guy never leaves his dorm room.”
― Rainbow Rowell, Fangirl

“To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.”
Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”
-Sarah J Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

“You drool when you sleep.”
― Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief

“I claim you, Aelin. To whatever end.”
― Sarah J. Maas, Heir of Fire

“Jesper knocking his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. “Fine. But if Pekka Rollins kills us all, I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost.”
Brekker’s lips quirked. “I’ll just hire Matthias’ ghost to kick your ghost’s ass.”
“My ghost won’t associate with your ghost,” Matthias said primly, and then wondered if the sea air was rotting his brain.”
― Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows

“You know, you ladies can let us males do things every now and then.”
― Sarah J. Maas, Empire of Storms

Who are your favorite authors |

Well if you couldn’t tell from the quote question my absolute favorite authors of all time are Sarah J. Maas and Rainbow Rowell. Sarah is my queen of fantasy and Rainbow is there when I need something set in the real world.

Have you joined any groups | No

Unfortunately I don’t really take advantage of all the other features Goodreads has to offer. For recommendations I usually look to Booktube or blogs, and same thing with discussing books.

Who do you tag |

The usual. EmiesnookEmiesnook and anyone else who wants to do this tag.

Thanks for Reading!

Nessian Fic Part 2

So a few days ago I mentioned the absolutely heart warming fan fiction about my favorite ACOMAF babies, Nessian. Now a part two has been added and if you never considered Nessian with a fur baby then you don’t know what your’e missing. So go read “I Saw a Flicker then Just Smoke” by starswholisten. Unlike the first one that had me crying like a baby, this one had me smiling like an idiot the whole way through. Again yes, this was written for me and is adorable, and well written with another clever Mumford and Sons title.

Just go read it if you love Nessian because it will get you right in the feels  ❤

Throne of Glass Book Tag

So obviously this is in honor of the release of Empire of Storms this week. I found this on polishedpageturners blog, so without further delay here is the Throne of Glass Book Tag!

Lysandra | A book with a cover change you loved

81PUjYDq2yL

Well this one is easy. Throne of Glass. I know not off to a great start picking Throne of Glass as the first book in the Throne of Glass book tag but lets face it, that first cover was rough. In fact, Goodreads kept suggesting ToG to me with the old cover and that combined with the terrible little blurb “2 men lover her, the whole land fears her, only she can save them all” just made it sound terrible but eventually I picked it up and the rest it history.

Abraxos | A book that’s better on the inside than it looks on the outside

256683City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I was looking for books to read after the Hunger Games wet my literary appetite in high school and google just kept recommending the Mortal Instruments. So I looked them up and between the cover and the blurb I thought it sounded awful (just goes to show the blurb is always a bad indication of how good a book is). Anyways, I love the series, and the spinoffs and the rest is history.

Erilea | A series with great world building

21473404.jpgThe Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan. Now bare with me a second since I know it takes place in New York and the continental US (which is not a world that needs to be built obviously) but the way Rick incorporates the Greek myths and Gods and stories into the US from Greek mythology is so amazing that it seems like he’s built this completely probable world of his own around one that already exists.

Rifthold | A book that combines genres

16101128

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. In my opinion this book is a mix of Alien Sci-Fi and Dystopian since we have a very much post apocalyptic world but the Alien component is also such a strong factor.

Damaris | A book based on/inspired by a myth or legend

9462795Starcrossed by Josephine Angellini was my first taste of Greek Mythology woven into modern day. Although I loved the Percy Jackson series, these books hold a special place in my heart since they take place on Nantucket and I am a Massachusetts native and I love reading about the names of places I’ve been.

Kaltain Rompier | A book with an unexpected twist

19288043-2.jpgGone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I read this at the recommendation of a friend who had said to me right before I started it “it’s obvious who did it from the first pages”. I thought she had spoiled me badly. So I spend the entire first half of the book (spoilers ahead) convinced that of course Nick did it. It’s so obvious. Boy was I surprised when Amy starts narrating and I realized my friend had tricked me.

Assassin’s Keep| A book with an unreliable narrator

10507293The Selection by Kiera Cass. Now America is not unreliable in that she’s shady, more in the sense that she always messes everything up. Don’t get me wrong I loved these books (especially the first 2) but the more we went on the worse she got at literally always doing the wrong thing until in the last book she literally almost ruined everything for no reason.

Astern Blackbeak | A book that’s got squad goals

23437156

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. How can you not love and want to be a part of the swaggering, rag tag team led by Kaz in this book? They’re all so different and yet go together so well you can’t not want to be a part of their squad.

Terrasen | A book that feels like home

113436.jpg

Surprise it’s not Harry Potter for me. No the first big fantasy book I ever really got sucked into was Eragon by Christopher Paolini . My dad read it to me in the 4th grade and I loved it and it started what ended up being a 4 year long obsession with dragons.

Aelin Ashryver Galathynius | A book with the power to destroy you

15745753

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell gives me all the feels. I loved that book so much even though it was full of heartbreak and it literally killed me reading it but it will forever be one of my favorites.

Manon Blackbeak | A book that intimidated you

9781435158108_p0_v1_s192x300

The Complete Collection of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I bought this last year and have slowly been progressing though it but it is a monster of a book and some of the Holmes stories can be a bit slow at times or are just filled with a few too many old english phrases that  I can’t follow what’s happening but I am determined to get through it.

Rowan Whitethorn | A book that makes you swoon

21532133

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. How can you not swoon over a giant, adorable, chivalrous red-headed Scotsman? I mean really? James Alexander Malcom McKenzie Fraser is irresistible.

Chaos Westfall | A book that challenged you to see things differently

26073150A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. No book tag would be complete without this making an appearance. But I was trying not to use any books twice and although I could put this almost anywhere (particularly books that make me swoon) I was really struggling to come up with something for this and it just hit me. This book had you looking at an entire first book in the series differently because it had you realizing signs of an unhealthy relationship and examine depression, abusive relationships, PTSD, feminism and a lot of other really important themes that dominate the       book even though it is fantasy, which is what makes it such an amazing book.

Fleetfoot | A book that you received as a gift

12476820

The Partials by Dan Wells was a birthday present from a good friend of mine and ended up being a very enjoyable series to read for a nice dystopian story.

Eye of Elena | a book you found right when you needed it

This isn’t exactly a book but I found  PolandBananasBooks on Youtube right when I needed it. She helped bring me out of my shell a bit for loving to read during my freshman year of college and I know I would not be as comfortable being bookworm I am today if I didn’t find her freshman year. Plus she’s the reason I’ve read so many of my favorite books (including ToG).

I will tag Emiesnook to do this tag next and anyone else who wants to do it. Good Luck!

Thanks for Reading

Maggie

The Greatest Nessian Fic of all Times

So since reading ACOMAF I have spiraled into a constant state of longing for the next book (see The Greatest Book Hangover Ever or perhaps When Fan Art is Life Changing). So it should come as no surprise that quality ACOMAF fanfic has been the lifeblood that keeps me going until ACOTAR 3 comes out. Now some are great, and some are eh but I feel the need to give special mention to this story for a few reasons.

Reason #1: Nessian is life. I love Cassian. The strong, funny comic relief male who will also do anything to protect those he loves is my kryptonite. I am always incredibly drawn to that character so it should be no surprise that while all the new characters introduced in ACOMAF were amazing (inner circle squad goals) Cassian is by far and above my favorite. Then of course we have Nesta. She is a little more controversial because we see in the first book how she does nothing while the family is suffering. But then in that first book (spoilers ahead) we see she’s the only one who goes after Feyre and then in this book she is fiercely protective of Elaine. I love her. Her spitfire nature and comment. The way she teases Cassian. Her no nonsense attitude. So they are my ultimate OTP now.

Reason #2: This fic was written for me. I asked my friend starswholisten to write this for me. I think she understands the characters enough to portray them correctly. So she wrote this specifically for me and I love her for it because this made me cry like a child. I do not cry easily with book. I did not cry once during ACOMAF but this made me tear up.

Reason #3: I need this to happen. I don’t mean this exact scene (though I’d imagine it’s how it would probably go down) but I want the spinoff Sarah mentioned releasing to be Nessian. A) it would mean they survive ACOTAR 3 (a thought of who isn’t going to make it plagues me constantly) and B) I need to see more of my precious children.

Reason #4: The title is a Mumford and Sons song, particularly one of my Favorite Mumford and Sons songs. Now like I said I know the author and she knows my deep love for Mumford so it’s just one more reason I love this fic.

So go read Roll Your Stone Away by starswholisten on AO3. It’s beautiful and its Nessian.

But just be prepared for what’s going to happen to you after you read it…

Sherlock.gif

…because Nessian ❤

Thanks for reading
